ONE AT A TIME
Successful completion of the program costs $100 per child. In addition, most children do not own suitable swimwear. Donations of new and slightly used swimwear along with $100 per child ensures that one more child can learn water safety skills and build confidence in our program.
In the city of Detroit, 7 out of 10 children cannot swim, putting our children at an unacceptable risk of drowning. No child should fear the water.
To teach a child to swim, we need to raise $100 per child. In addition, many children do not have suitable swimwear, so we also need donations of new and slightly used swimwear.
The Y's Detroit Swims is reaching out to schools, community pools and other urban centers, where we can run our unique swim program. We can teach a child to swim in a matter of weeks.
2013–To raise $150,000 to fully fund the successful completion for 1,500 children by December, 2013.
